Stem cells show promise for stroke therapy in pilot study

A stroke therapy using stem cells has shown promising results in the first trial of its kind in humans. Five patients received the treatment in a pilot study conducted by doctors at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust and scientists at Imperial College London. The therapy was found to be safe, and all the patients showed improvements in clinical measures of disability.

Bioteeth From Stem-Cells Will Regrow Complete Teeth, Superior to Implants

Replacing missing teeth with new bio engineered teeth, grown from stem cells generated from a person's own gum cells, is a future method that could be superior to the currently used implant technology but for now not all required pieces are in place.

New research, published in the Journal of Dental Research and led by Professor Paul Sharpe, an expert in craniofacial development and stem cell biology at King's College London's Dental Institute, describes an important preliminary step towards the development of this method by sourcing the required cells from a patient's own gum.

Engineered stem cells seek out, kill HIV in living organisms

Expanding on previous research providing proof-of-principal that human stem cells can be genetically engineered into HIV-fighting cells, a team of UCLA researchers have now demonstrated that these cells can actually attack HIV-infected cells in a living organism.

"We believe that this study lays the groundwork for the potential use of this type of an approach in combating HIV infection in infected individuals, in hopes of eradicating the virus from the body,"
